Vegetation Management

System

Designed for Electric Transmission and Distribution the Vegetation Management System provides a map-based interface to manage tree-trimming and related activities. Work status is updated in real-time and can be viewed from any web browser on the corporate intranet or by field based devices.

Historical data may also be viewed and future planned work entered.

The Vegetation Management comes with a Theme module which allows you to view the same data colored and styled differently to highlight various attributes.

The Tree-Trimming Status theme colors all data by its work status. This allows you to look at large areas and quickly see progress or get quick visual ideas of where problem areas exist such as where access is denied.

The screen above is looking at tree trimming corridors color coded by feeder (circuit). The satellite backdrop has been set to “faded” to make the corridors more visible. Background map options include satellite and road maps as well as Microsoft Birds-Eye view or Google Street View for alternative camera angles.

Built-in Themes:

Color by Tree-Trimming Status

Color/Line thickness by Voltage

Color by Circuit/Feeder Line Number

More themes may be configured using any attributes you store on your vegetation management corridors.

Key Features:

Web, PC or Field based

Manage tree trimming or other environmental work directly on top of electric network maps

Status changes, notes and new work visible instantly by all engineers in the office or field

The colors assigned to each status are configurable by you. A legend is provided to explain any data on the screen and this changes dynamically as you move around the map or change theme.

There is no limit to what other data layers you may display. From the layers menu you may add substations, any transmission or distribution features, even crew-locations if you have installed the optional GPS crew location units.

Individual vegetation management jobs may be controlled or several may be managed in one go. In the screen above the user has selected several corridors and is going to set them all to a status of “Trimmed”.  You may select any entity on the screen simply by dragging your mouse over them, or by drawing a polygon around a set if you need more fine-tuning.

This management menu is configurable to include all status options of all vegetation management functions.

Batch Management Tools:

Set Scheduled

Set Trimmed

Set Denied

Set Approved

You may customize the system to manage any data attributes you need.  All data you save is stored in a relational database on a corporate server that is accessible by any other corporate system.  Reports or standard data transmissions my be configured to automatically update other systems periodically, on demand or when data changes.

You can also edit individual corridors or jobs by double clicking on any of them.  When you do an edit window pops up like this on to the left.  It includes information about the any transmission / distribution lines sharing the corridor and allows you to change status, add comments, set dates and pick from a list of quick reference notes.

This list is configurable by you but out of the box includes such common notes as:

    Heavy Trimming

    Public Opposition

Hit OK when done. Your edit is saved to a central database and is visible instantly to all engineers logged into the system.

If you customize the system to add to the built-in status list, the new batch change functions will appear here in the Tools menu.

Reports:

You may specify any report you like. These reports may be available on the NRG report center web site or may be emailed to you automatically on a daily/weekly basis etc. The report below is an email example, showing the initial state of all 2008 corridors, with milage. This report was set to email nightly showing progress throughout the year. We’ve shortened it below to just show the first few dozen rows.
